Being a Dad: Surviving Christmas (The Christmas Tree)

Hello And Welcome Home!

The Christmas Tree is probably the most recognizable symbol of Christmas...

Sure we have the Christmas Star, Santa Claus, and The Christ Child, but these may not be everywhere. Christmas Trees sure are. Did you know that Christmas Trees have been a thing since the middle ages? Well, it’s true? They were used by the Romans too. These histories show that the Evergreen Tree was used as a symbol of life and protection.

Many argue it is just for looks, or even just that thing we decorate with lights and balls every year. I believe the Christmas Tree, as well as being a dad, is rooted in finding ways to embrace Strength, Health, Life, and even Protecting those we care about.

More importantly, though, I believe a big part of our job as fathers to our children is showing them how to live. Better yet, our job is to show them how we live. Winter can be one of the best seasons of the year or one of the worst. The Evergreen Tree stands strong and full of life through it all.

So can we!

Life is full of ups and downs, there is no way around it. I know my family has had their share of those in 2020. I’m learning more and more every day that the key to overcoming those ups and downs is about embracing life.

Embracing a life that is different, a life that is an example to our Children.

While being a dad does come with its ups and downs, there are ways to find something more. The Christmas season has its share of worry, struggle, and even maybe a feeling of in-value. It may feel like this season is hard, and it may very well be harder than we’d like. Surviving Christmas, as well as all those ups and downs, is possible.

As fathers, our children look to us for direction, even if they don’t realize it. Finding Strength, Health, and Life through this season is how we survive, it's how we protect what we love.

Living by faith, with my family,

M. E.
